Sweetest Couple, Engagement Photography DonegalI’ve met Edel & Darren a couple of times and they are the sweetest couple. After booking me to do her wedding photography, Edel came back to me for a voucher and surprised her family with a photo shoot at my studio. This was brilliant as I got to meet everyone and when it comes to Edel & Darren’s big day, there will be lots of friendly faces as well as fantastic wall art on display from their shoot.
Glenevin Waterfall, DonegalBack to Glenevin Waterfall, after a long trek up the mountain on a rare sunny hot day, we got to the waterfall which was covered with tourists. After about five minutes of being polite, I kindly asked everyone for a little private time with the view for my lovely couple.
Fun Photo ShootI had lots of fun shooting Edel & Darren as we made our way up and as we made our way back down. I really love engagement shoots as I think it prepares everyone for the photography on the wedding day. Edel & Darren, it was great getting to know you and I can’t wait until your big day in 2016.
Earlier in the month I had the pleasure of visiting Glenevin Co. Donegal for the engagement shoot of Edel & Darren.

Today on the blog is the engagement shoot of the lovely Lisa & Dean.
Mussenden Temple, Downhill
We went to the terrific Mussenden Temple at Downhill. What a location! Northern Ireland has some fantastic areas of outstanding beauty and this is one of them.
Northern Ireland’s Weather – Not Exactly Sunny
The showers stayed away long enough for our shoot and we ended up with some fantastic images. Lisa visited the studio recently with her mum to see the images from the shoot. Bothe were very pleased! I’m really looking forward to Lisa & Dean’s wedding next year and images from this shoot will be used in a fantastic signing book which will look even more amazing when completed by their guests.
Today on the blog is the fun engagement shoot of Rachael & Ryan.
I met Rachael & Ryan last year at my studio when they were scouting wedding photographers. I think once they met me, they knew their search was over.
Fun Engagement Photography At Roe Valley Country Park
They are such a lovely couple and are great fun. I loved spending an hour with them at the country park in Limavady and can’t wait for their big day at Corrick House in Clogher. It’s a venue that I love and look forward to photographing their wedding.
Today on the blog is the wedding of Donna & Gareth. I had such a great day shooting this wedding. Donna & Gareth are two of the nicest people I have had the pleasure of working with and it was great to be part of their special day.
I began photographing the gorgeous bride at around 9am at Bernadette’s Hair Salon in Donemana. Donna was with her bridesmaids and her daughter, Emma who was such a brilliant little flower girl.
After making the beautiful Donna, even more stunning, it was back to Donna’s family home for final preparations in Craigbane and for Donna to get into her amazing wedding dress from Beautiful Day Bridal Cottage in Greysteel.
St. Josephs Church, Craigbane
I left the brides family home to meet Gareth at the church for some shots with him and the boys before the big arrival of Donna.
After a beautiful service and lots of family photos, it was off to Cumber House in Claudy for some bridal photos.
Amazing Wedding At Mill Park Hotel, Donegal
It was soon time to hit the road again and on to Donegal Town to the fabulous Mill Park Hotel. This is the first time I photographed a wedding at this venue and I was very impressed. I can’t wait to come back.
Donna & Gareth, I had a great day with you and your friends & family.
Congratulations again. See you soon when you come back to choose your images for your album which is going to be beautiful.
Last month on a ridiculously sunny day, a rare occurrence in Northern Ireland, I met up with the lovely Sarah-Jayne & Steven for their romantic pre-wedding shoot at the Whiterocks in Portrush.
Beautiful Location For Wedding Photography In Northern Ireland
What a fantastic couple Steven & Sarah-Jayne are. We had to do a lot of walking to get the shots that I wanted done and they were brilliant. We got some brilliant images and the lovebirds visited my studio yesterday to see all of their images from the shoot. They were so happy with the images and the countdown is well and truly on.
Looking Forward To Next Year
Last month I had the pleasure of photographing Denise & Michael’s wedding in Bruckless, Donegal. It was so great to visit a town and church I had never been to before. I hope I’m back soon for another wedding.
I visited Bruckless a week earlier so that I could find the church and the family home of Denise. I always do my homework for different locations. I’ll think of a few ideas doing this and it’s always worth doing because I know exactly where I’m going on the morning of the wedding. This photographer won’t be getting lost looking for brides houses any time soon!
Denise’s family home was so welcoming to myself and the videographer, Valerie from Milton Digital who was shooting Denise & Michael’s wedding video. The house was packed and very busy. The hair stylist and makeup artist were busy in different rooms and every corner of the house was a hub of activity.
Also in the mix was one of the cutest page boys I’ve ever had and a charming little flower girl who were both brilliant. They did everything I asked with a smile. I love children at weddings and love to see them involved. As you’ll notice, I try my best to get as many great pictures of everyone but try a little harder to include the little ones. I’m so pleased at how the images of the children came out.
After a great time at Denise’s family home, it was off to photograph Michael & the boys at Buckles chapel. A great set of lads who made my job easy. Soon after, the beautiful bride made her entrance and after the ceremony, it was off to Kee’s Hotel in Stranorlor to celebrate with friends and family.
The final image is taken outside the hotel at night. I’m so pleased with it and I’m glad that Denise & Michael left their guests for five minutes to came out for the shot. It was worth it.
It’s about time that I put something personal on the blog.
Taylor Swift In Dublin
To anyone who knows me, it’s very well known that I’m a big Taylor Swift fan. This week I had the chance to take my nieces to see her at the fantastic 3 Arena in Dublin. What a brilliant show and my nieces loved every second of it.
I love concerts and being a photographer, I usually take a few pictures during the show.
All Action Photography
As a wedding and portrait photographer, I found it really different and demanding keeping up with all the action on the stage! There was a lot of action going on! Overall I’m pleased with the images but would love to get shooting the next one a little closer to the stage.
If you ever get a chance to see Taylor Swift in concert, jump at the chance and see her!
Today on the blog is the pre-wedding shoot of Séamus & Clément.
What a scorcher of a day! Séamus & Clément brought the weather with them. I’ve given up looking at weather forecasts. The meteorologists must have all gone on their summer holidays and been replaced by astrologers. Every forecast seems up the left lately. Sunny when its given as overcast, rainy when its supposed to be sunny. Hope it’s as good on Saturday for the big day.
Séamus & Clément met up with me at Lisfannon beach in Buncrana. After some fun in the sun, we headed on to Swan Park for more pictures.
I had loads of fun with Séamus & Clément. They were great craic and I’m looking forward to photographing their wedding at the amazing Lough Eske Castle in Donegal.
On the blog today is Danielle & Jonathan’s beautiful wedding from last month.
I really enjoyed every aspect of the wedding from morning right through to night. Danielle & Jonathan are easily two of the nicest people I have ever met and working with them was so much fun.
Early Start At Peter Mark, Letterkenny
My day began at Peter Mark in Letterkenny where Danielle & her bridesmaids were in to get their hair done. The stylists at Peter Mark did an excellent job and each of Danielle & her bridesmaids had a stylist of their own so there was no waiting around and more importantly, we kept on time.
After the hair was beautifully styled, the girls made their way to the home of Danielle’s parents where their make up artist was waiting. The morning for the girls was so stress free and relaxed. It was a very calm home to be in and I was made very welcome by Danielle’s parents.
After a beautiful service at Ramelton Presbyterian Church, and after some family formals, it was time to go to Ramelton Town for some bridal photography. I love this location and the old McDaids factory is a lovely spot for bridal photography.
With rain on the way, I think we got through the bridal photos in around fifteen minutes. A new record! I usually spend longer but we got an amazing amount of work done in a short space of time. I got everyone back into the cars just in time! I must say a special thanks to everyone in Danielle & Jonathan’s bridal party as they were so great to work with and were a big help on the day.
Off To Redcastle Hotel, Donegal
After a lot of fun in Ramelton, we set off on the road to Redcastle and the beautiful Redcastle Hotel. We were a little early but that gave the bride and groom a bit of free time to catch their breath and relax before the speeches and meal.
After the speeches which were all brilliant, it was soon time for a little dancing and finally the day ended for me with a night shot next to the ocean front.
Congratulations To The Happy Couple
Danielle & Jonathan, it was a pleasure photographing your day. Congratulations again and I wish you many years of happiness.
On the blog today is a pre-wedding shoot with a difference.
Home Sweet Home In Strabane
Taken a couple of weeks ago, the location for Donna & Gareth’s shoot was the site of their new home outside Strabane. It was such a great idea by Donna and Gareth to have their images taken here. It’s such a refreshing change for me from the norm and it makes every single image so personal to them and in years to come, I suppose the images will have that much more value to them. The trees in the top image were planted by Gareth’s grandfather which adds so much story to the image. I imagine that more than a few of these will be displayed proudly in Donna & Gareth’s new home when they have it finished.
Northern Ireland Weather & The Wedding Photographer
In a shocking turn of events, the sun decided to shine in Northern Ireland for a change. I had recently gone through some really miserable wet days when shooting so this was definitely a nice change.
Great Times Had By All
I had such a great time with Donna & Gareth creating these images. They really enjoyed it too and it shows in every single image. I cannot wait for their wedding which is just a short few days away. I love waiting until the week running up to the wedding to blog about the pre-wedding shoot. It really adds to the excitement for everyone involved. The countdown is well and truly on. See you on Saturday, Donna & Gareth.
Today on the blog is the wedding of the beautiful Fenessa & husband Shane from last month.
Fenessa & Shane are such a great couple and it was a pleasure spending the day with them. Their service was at St. Peters & St. Paul’s in Foreglen, Co. Derry.
After a beautiful service, the bridal party and families went to Cumber House in Claudy for their photography formals.
After that, it was off to Jacksons Hotel in Ballybofey, Donegal to celebrate with friends and family.
Congratulations again to the new Mr & Mrs Cassidy.
Today on the blog is the pre-wedding shoot of Michael & his beautiful bride to be, Denise.
This shoot was done during Easter. It was a beautiful sunny day (remember those?) and Michael & Denise had lots of fun. They even laughed at my bad jokes!
Their wedding is right around the corner. The ceremony will be in Buckless, Co. Donegal and then they are off to celebrate in the fantastic Kees Hotel in Stranorlor. I’m really looking forward to photographing their special day. Michael & Denise are great fun and no doubt if their bridal party is anything like them, we’ll have great craic while creating beautiful images for their wedding album.
Looking forward to your special day!
Today on the blog is a fun session with Danielle & Jonathan which was on a beautiful sunny evening in April.
Danielle & Jonathan are getting married in May 2015 in Ramelton, Co. Donegal and are then are off to the beautiful Redcastle Hotel to celebrate with family and friends.
Meeting The Happy Couple To Be
I met this young couple back in 2013 at a wedding fayre in Letterkenny and soon after they booked me to photograph their special day. Of course I was delighted that they chose me to capture the special moments of their important day. It’s always been a wedding I’ve been looking forward to.
So Much Fun
I really liked spending time with Danielle & Jonathan. They are so easy to work with and they make my job a whole lot easier behind the camera. They absolutely loved doing the shoot and it’s a great thing to do before your wedding day as it makes everyone comfortable and relaxed. Danielle & Jonathan will really enjoy their wedding photography on the day because of this.
Beautiful Signing Book
The fun couple always planned on getting a beautiful signing book made so I based the shoot on shots which would compliment the book. I joked with Jonathan that I had enough great shots to make a book just about him! In reality, I could have made a 100 page book with their photos as there were so many great ones.
I can’t wait to photograph Danielle & Jonathan’s wedding day and look forward to seeing their signing book and signing frame filled out by their friends and family at the Redcastle Hotel in May.
Beautiful Wedding Photography From Shea Deighan
Today on the blog is coverage of Julie & Owen’s special day from April 2015.
What a stunning bride the new Mrs Mullan is! Julie looked amazing all day and was positively glowing in happiness throughout. Her new husband, Owen was looking the part as well! Such a thoughtful and happy couple. I loved spending the day with them.
It’s All About The Preparation
Here’s a small sample of the day. Morning preparations started early for the girls in the always amazing Syenna in Derry. I’m sure the boys were still in bed when the girls arrived at the hair & beauty salon. After some fun with the girls in Syenna, I scooted off down to Ballykelly to photograph the handsome groom for a few preparation shots. I love getting the groom for a few of these shots and think that it really adds to the album. After a few minutes with Owen, I rushed to Julie’s home to continue her preparation shots.
Julie & Owen’s chapel was Saint Finloughs in Ballykelly. It’s a nice intimate chapel and it was full with guests. The ceremony was beautiful and Father O’Hagen had everyone in fits of laughter at times.
After the ceremony, we breezed off to Dogleap Gardens for some bridal shots and because of the mad Northern Irish weather, we decided to head on to the City Hotel in Derry to continue the celebrations.
Wedding Reception Venue – City Hotel Derry
The City Hotel was brilliant. I love photographing weddings here. Their staff are amazing. Nothing is too much for them and I’m sure Owen & Julie were treated brilliantly too. My photography coverage continued to the first dance.
I had a fantastic day photographing Julie & Owen.
Congratulations again. I wish you many happy years of marriage.
Hey everyone, hope you all had a nice Easter!
I’ve a bit of an Easter treat for you with the beautiful Julie & Owen on the blog.
Beautiful Pre-Wedding Photography
What a beautiful couple they are!
Here are a sample of some of the fantastic images from Julie & Owen’s fun pre-wedding shoot which was at Roe Valley Country Park in Limavady.
Both have amazing smiles and fun personalities which makes it easy for anyone to photograph them.
From these great images, Julie & Owen wanted to do something special with them so I made a fantastic signing book for their guests to complete. (More on that next month!) Their signing book will be sitting proudly at their wedding reception which is at the wonderful City Hotel in Derry.
Looking Forward To Their Big Day
I can’t wait to photograph Julie & Owen’s big day which is right around the corner. Keep an eye on my blog for updates.
I’m delighted to announce that I’ve been accepted into the wonderful world of Fearless Photographers.

You can view the images on the portfolio section of my site.
As always, thanks for visiting.
I’d been looking forward to Emma & Peter’s amazing wedding day for such a long time. I couldn’t wait to photograph their big day.
It was worth the wait.
Their engagement shoot was way back in August 2012 when they booked me to shoot their wedding so I had plenty of time to think about ideas for their big day!
Emma is from the same village as myself so I didn’t have far to travel to get to her parents beautiful home.
Emma & Peter’s service was held at Saint Patrick’s Church in Claudy, County Derry and their wedding reception was hosted at the magnificent Harvey’s Point in Donegal. What a venue! I can’t wait to go back.
Normally, I try to not let the world see my wedding images until the bride & groom have had a chance to show off their images to their own nearest and dearest.
As with all my brides and grooms, Peter & Emma received two DVDs to take home immediately after their viewing. Roughly four weeks after their wedding. One has a slideshow with music which they can show off all of their photos on their big screens at home to friends and family and the other DVD has their images which can be used for selecting which photo they want in their wedding album or can be used for printing etc.
The happy couple visited my studio a few weeks ago to see their wedding photography for the first time and I’m happy to say that they were delighted with them all. I think the words Emma used to describe them were amazing & brilliant! She was buzzing after seeing them.
It was great to see them so happy. I can’t wait to see them back in the studio when they are ordering their beautiful wedding album.
Today, the blog returns with a bang! Today’s post covers the gorgeous wedding of Kerrie & Eoghan.
I normally do as wedding blog like this immediately after the bride & groom come into my studio to see their images for the first time (which was way back in October) but on this occasion, I agreed with the lovely Kerrie that I’d hold off until both immediate families could have their own private viewings in their own homes rather than seeing them here on my website for the first time.
Things have been so busy in the studio since, I’ve never had a chance to blog about anything. So expect lots from me in the next few days and weeks!
Sit Back And Relax
Right, excuses over. Time to sit back and have a look at some of the gorgeous images from Kerrie & Eoghan’s perfect day which was on a stunning sunny day in the lovely County Derry village of Feeny. Feeny isn’t too far from my home so it was perfect for me. Those extra five minutes in bed would come in handy later on as I was covering the wedding until the first dance.
How cool is this? The Murphys were very welcoming. Such a busy house as everyone got ready for the big occasion.
I loved Kerrie’s dress and colours for the bridesmaids.
I love getting images of the little things around the house on the morning of the wedding. A also love the framed photo which was taken by me during Kerrie & Eoghan’s gorgeous engagement shoot at the Dark Hedges.
After preparations with the lovely hairdresser and talented makeup artist fun in the bride’s home, it was off to Feeny chapel to meet up with the boys who made a big grand entrance!
How’s that for an entrance! I have to say the boys were brilliant and had great fun getting their photos taken.
After fun with the boys and their fancy cars, it was time for Kerrie to make an even more impressive entrance.
I love this photo. The boys are great but I love the reaction from their guests behind them. It’s so funny as I took two and the one after this, none of the guests were looking.
One last quick photo of Eoghan before the ring goes on!
After a beautify service and a few images taken inside the church, it was off to a secret location for family and bridal photos.
How beautiful are the happy newly married couple? Kerrie & Eoghan are so in love and it really shows throughout their amazing day. I love the car that was used for these photos. It’s from Elanor Car Hire in Newry. Such a brilliant finishing touch to the day.
After the family and bridal photos, it was off to the beautiful Inishowen Gateway in Buncrana. I love this hotel and it’s even better at this time of the year.
The room looked amazing and Kerrie & Eoghan’s cake looked beautiful.
This is my signing frame. A brilliant extra for your big day. This will be cherished forever by Kerrie & Eoghan.
So that’s that. Just a small sample of Kerrie & Eoghan’s big day. I can’t wait for their wedding album order in the new year!
Last month I spent a beautiful sunny Saturday with Laura & Gareth on their wedding day.
Laura was such a beautiful bride and Gareth scrubbed up well too!
On this occasion, I wasn’t required at the home of the bride prior to the ceremony where I normally take a few preparation shots and still shots of flowers and dress etc.
So instead for once I got to get up at a reasonable hour (I’m normally up at 7am!) on the morning of a wedding and head off to the church with lots of time to meet up with the boys. I arrived a little earlier than the boys so that I could get some shots of the beautiful Saint Columba’s church while it was empty. Nice shots to have and remember in 50 years time!
A few fun shots with the boys and then it was time for the beautiful bride, Laura to make her entrance. Laura arrived in a stunning vintage wedding car with her proud mum. Laura sparkled in the stunning sun and her dress was gorgeous.
The service was lovely and held by Father Chris Ferguson who always makes the congregation at ease. There was lots of fun stories and lots of smiles from the bride and groom to capture.
After the service and after a few shots inside and outside the church, it was off to the popular Ballyliffin Lodge & Spa in Donegal where after some lovely speeches and even a song from the best man, the beautiful Laura & Gareth danced the night away.
There are so many things about being a professional photographer that I love.
Everyday is different
I get to shoot so many genres of photography. I’m not just one type of photographer. I get to shoot people of all ages in different settings. Today’s blog is focused on a shoot with little Jake at my portrait studio in Derry.
Meeting The Star Of The Show
Firstly, I got to meet Jake along with his lovely mum, Caoimhe. Once I was introduced to the little man and he was comfortable around me, I invited him to take a position in the shooting area. Mum, Caoimhe, was sat comfortably behind me in the studio room where little Jake could see her. We used the white background for this shoot but there are loads of different combinations and colours. At Jake’s age, white is perfect.
The shoot lasted around 45 minutes but this can differ from shoot to shoot. Shoots usually take no longer than one hour but if necessary, they can go on a little longer at no extra cost. Little Jake kept me on my toes and made me work for all of my shots but as always the hard work paid off and we got some beautiful images.
The Viewing On The Big Screen
Today (the day after the shoot), Caoimhe & Jake returned to my portrait studio for their viewing on the big screen in my wonderful viewing room. Here Caoimhe was able to see all of the images in large crystal clear format and with all of my wonderful products on display, was able to imagine her images in each of them.
It was smiles all around as proud mum Caoimhe was delighted with the images and after a little deciding picked her favourites which will be ready for collection in around a week. I try to get all orders back to my customers as soon as I can. Products and prints are created in a state of the art facility which is outsourced.
Another Fun Shoot
So there you have it, another fun shoot at the Shea Deighan Photography Portrait Studio. Heres a small sample of the beautiful images from Jake’s portrait session.
Last week Laura & Hugh braved the mad and unpredictable Irish weather and we all went for a walk together in the beautiful Swan Park – Buncrana, a short journey from where my studio is based in Derry.
Beautiful Swan Park In Buncrana – A Great Place For Engagement Photography
What a lovely area Swan Park is and so it was fitting I had such a nice couple to share my afternoon with. In between showers and running for shelter, we got some beautiful and fun shots.
It’s very much my style to let the couples do their own thing mostly. It’s what they are most comfortable doing. All I really do is fine tune their positions.
Looking Forward To The Wedding At The City Hotel, Derry
I have the pleasure of photographing this lovely couple’s wedding next year at one of the most popular wedding venues, the City Hotel – Derry and I had such a fun time with them on their engagement shoot.
Here’s a few from the day…
A few weeks ago, I met up with the lovely Fenessa & Shane for a fun shoot at Cumber Park in Claudy.
Fenessa & Shane are a lovely couple and are so excited for their big day which is coming up next year.
I love engagement & pre wedding shoots. It captures a moment in a period of time where the couple are excited and very much looking forward to their big day. Fenessa & Shane will be married a long time so having great photos of a time when they aren’t married will be great for them to have and to treasure forever.
Their reception is in the beautiful Jacksons Hotel in Ballybofey in County Donegal. It should be great fun capturing their big day.
Kerrie & Eoghan are two of the nicest people I have come across since I opened up my photography studio.
I met them nearly a couple of years ago while they were visiting home in Northern Ireland for Christmas. At the time they were living and working out in beautiful Australia! Lucky them!
Fast forward to 2014 and Kerrie & Eoghan are home making the finishing touches to their wedding plans and building up to their amazing day at the end of September.
I can’t wait to photograph their wedding day.
On a beautiful afternoon in early September, they spent a fun hour with me. Here’s a selection of their images…
Say hi to my July 2014 Photo of the Month winner.
This little darling wins a £100 gift voucher and is entered into my Photo of the Year prize draw due to take place in January next year.
I can’t wait to see this little one back in my studio again in the future!
Say hello to my June 2014 Photo of the Month winner. I can’t believe half of 2014 is already gone. As it stands, it’s a tie between the boys and the girls. 3-3 with half the year to go!
First Holy Communion Visit
This young lady visited my studio with her older sister as part of her First Holy Communion celebrations. Her sister got amazing photos taken as well.
It was a really fun shoot. Both girls were so much energy and loved getting their photos taken. I think it was a nice break for their mum who could sit back, relax and watch the shoot from my comfy sofa.
This lucky girl wins a £100 voucher to be used at my studio and of course gets entered into my Photo of the Year prize draw in January 2015 which isn’t that far away!
Hello Mr Photo Of The Month!
Say hey to my May 2014 Photo of the Month winner.
This is the second time this young man has been to my studio. His first appearance, when he was just nine months old was memorable as all his images were so beautiful! I think I used one of his images as my Facebook photo for a year! I was delighted when his mum called to make the appointment. It’s great for me to see the changes in the children I photograph through the years. There was no big shocks when this little man came through the door. He’s still a cutie pie! It’s great for mum and dad to have amazing professional images of their beautiful boy throughout the important parts of his life.
This lucky boy wins a £100 voucher to be used at my studio and of course gets entered into my Photo of the Year prize draw in January 2015!
Say Hey, Say Hi, Say How Do You Do
Say hello to my April 2014 Photo of the Month winner. This young man was so much fun during his photo shoot. It’s normally a fun time during all of my photo shoots but I remember this one was a hoot! The craic was great and it makes my job so much easier when I’ve got children like this at the other end of my camera.
Unlike 2013, where the girls ruled my Photo of the Month, 2014 is proving to be very even. After four months, the scores are: Girls 2 Boys 2
Photo Of The Year 2015
As you know by now, the monthly winners get a £100 gift voucher for another photo shoot in the future and get entered into my Photo of the Year prize draw which takes place in January 2015.
Say hi to my third POTM winner from 2014. This cute wee man is my March 2014 Photo Of The Month winner.
This cutie was the first name drawn this month. He wins a wonderful £100 gift voucher for a photo shoot in the near future and is the third qualifier for my 2015 Photo of the Year competition which takes place at the start of next year.
Beautiful Photo Shoot
This little man came to my studio recently to mark his first birthday. After a few minutes of getting to know each other, I had loads of fun and so did he during the shoot. As always, there were loads of fantastic images for everyone to choose from when it came to choosing the best ones.
Amazing Products & Gifts
After the shoot, the most amazing mounted prints were ordered which are sure to be kept and treasured forever.
I look forward to having this little one back in my studio in the future and best of luck for the big prize draw next year!
Here’s me looking quite pleased with my licentiate award from the PPANI. It was presented to me by David Coote, the president of the PPANI at the annual PPANI Awards this past Sunday.
First But Not The Last
This was my first PPANI Awards and it was a lot of fun! As a thank you for all of her hard work for me, I took my little sis as my plus one. Mel is the friendly face who you see at wedding fayres alongside me. She’s a great help and I was glad to treat her to a night out.
Well done Steven
I wasn’t up for any awards this year but my mate Steven Neeson was up for three different award categories so I was cheering him on all night. Think I tortured him actually as I thought he’d win every one he was nominated for! The best part of the night was when Steven was announced as the winner of ‘Reportage Wedding Photographer Of The Year’. I was delighted for him to win. It’s well deserved and he’s an amazing photographer.
The big winners on the night were other photographers from Derry/Londonderry. I’m delighted for them too. Well done Mustafa, Donal & Audrey! The North West is currently buzzing with great photographers & are taking the PPANI by storm!
I’m delighted to be a part of the PPANI and can’t wait for next year!
Say hi to my second POTM winner from 2014. This little lady is my February 2014 Photo Of The Month winner.
This lucky girl was the first name pulled out of the hat. She wins a £100 gift voucher for a photo shoot in the near future and is the second qualifier for my 2015 Photo of the Year competition which takes place at the start of next year.
Beautiful Photo Shoot
This little star was in my studio for a fun family shoot & I had loads of fun taking all of the photos as did everyone including mum and dad! There were loads of fantastic images for everyone to choose from.
Amazing Products & Gifts
After the shoot, the most amazing photo book was ordered and is sure to be kept and treasured forever.
I look forward to having this little one back in my studio in the future and best of luck for the big prize draw next year!

Say hi to my first POTM winner from 2014. This little lady is my January 2014 Photo Of The Month winner.
This lucky girl was the first name pulled out of the hat. She wins a £100 gift voucher for a photo shoot in the near future and is the first qualifier for my 2015 Photo of the Year competition which takes place in January 2015.
Fun Photo Shoot
I had loads of fun when this shoot took place. There were loads of fantastic images for her family to choose from.
The most amazing collages were ordered and are now sitting proudly up on the walls of their homes.
I look forward to having this little one back in my studio in the future and best of luck for the big prize draw next year!
I just had the parents (& granny) of my photo of the year winner in my studio to see the photos taken at my studio of their beautiful daughter (& granddaughter) for the first time.
To say that they were impressed was an understatement. I love getting feedback and this is exactly why I held off posting these wonderful pictures until they had a chance to see them. Nothing beats the comfort of my studio to see their photos for the first time up on my big screen and it’s great for me the photographer to see what they like best.
Looking at them here on my website is nice but nothing compares to the viewing room at my studio.
The Funs Starts
So after seeing them it, the fun started when it was time to pick their favourites. I have to say that they did really well to pick all that they wanted as they were all gorgeous! The first place prize for my photo of the year was £500 worth of images and products from the shoot.
Mum & dad (& granny!) left very happy with loads of beautiful images for their homes.
Drum roll please…
I’m delighted to announce the winner of my 2014 Photo of the Year is Darcie & mum Gail. Darcie wins a prize worth £500 after getting an amazing 1,328 votes! What a fantastic job. I’m delighted for Gail and Darcie. Darcie was a flower girl at a beautiful wedding I photographed and LOVED being in front of my camera. I can’t wait for our photo shoot!
In second place is Abbie & dad Terence with an equally impressive 1,116 votes!
It’s been a fantastic competition this year and my first and second place winners have really surpassed all of my expectations with both receiving a stunning amount of votes. They swapped first place on numerous occasions and were both always well out in front of the rest of the entrants.
So, for Abbie & Terence doing so well and being very unlucky, I’ve decided to upgrade their prize from £300 to £500!
I’m really looking forward to Abbie’s shoot as well. Abbie visited my studio back in October as part of a large grandchildren shoot. I remember saying to her mum and dad at the time that I’d have loved more time for photographing her. I’m very happy as this will be a lovely shoot.
Third place goes to Ronan & mum Martina! Ronan is the only boy out of the winners so I’m glad Ronan is able to stick up for all the men. Ronan wins a prize worth £200. Ronan is fast becoming the most photographed child at my studio! He’s been in a few times since I opened in 2011. He’s always great fun but I’m going to have to be quick as he’s not one for staying still! Looking forward to this as well, just don’t bring that horrible Liverpool shirt this time! Ha ha
Secret Hidden Prize For Fourth Place
Well done to Leeann and Emma for finishing 4th! I bet that’s a nice surprise! I’ve included this secret prize as I think it rewards 4th place as I know that everyone was trying so hard to get into the top three. Congrats to Leeann & Emma who win a prize worth £150 at my studio.
I have to say a big thank you to all of those who tried their best to win. You worked so hard to drum up all of your votes.
Thank you as well to everyone who took the time to vote. There has been a lot of family and friends who have been tortured this week! Well done you! There was a total of 3,368 votes cast! Amazing.
Congratulations to all of the winners who are each deserving of their prize. I’ll contact you at the start of the week to arrange your appointment time at Shea Deighan Photography.
Here’s the final total of votes:
1st: Gail McColgan (December) 1,328 votes
2nd: Terence Gray (October) 1,116 votes
3rd: Martina Gray (August) 325 votes
4th: Leeann McLaughlin (November) 209 votes
5th: Paddy Moore (September) 199 votes

8th: Gavin O’Kane (March) 48 votes
9th: Catherine Sweetman (April) 12 votes
10th: Karen Darragh (July) 4 votes
11th: Charlene Henry (May) 4 votes
12th: Clare Boyle (January) 3 votes
As with all my wedding photography, I never publicise any images until the bride and groom visit my studio for their viewing. This usually takes around a month or so to do after the big day.
Beautiful Wedding Photography At The City Hotel Derry
It’s worth it for me and for the happy couple. They get to see them all at once in a wonderful slideshow with beautiful music and I get to see their first impressions. For the bride & groom, it’s another day out associated with their wedding day and it cannot be compared to seeing them on Facebook or my website etc.
On this occasion, the wedding was in late November, I pushed the boat out to get Cheryl and Emmett back into my studio before Christmas. I knew they were dying to see their wonderful images and I was pleased to show them off.
Champagne Viewing At Shea Deighan Photography
After a wonderful champagne viewing, I said I’d hold off even longer without showing them off on my website. This would give them a chance to show them off at home on their big screen to family and friends before they saw them on my website. My site is good but it’s not as good as the bride and groom showing off my photography in their home using the beautiful DVD slideshow I provided them with.
Cheryl & Emmett’s Big Day By Shea Deighan Photography
So, here’s a lovely selection of images from Cheryl & Emmett’s big day. Despite really rubbish weather, it was a fantastic day. The craic at the bride’s home was class. Everyone was so much fun. The service was beautiful and then it was on the wonderful City Hotel in Derry for a fantastic wedding reception.
Great day all around. Congrats again to Mr & Mrs Doherty!
Say Hello To My Little Miss December
This little cutie pie was flower girl at a recent beautiful wedding I covered. She was so good on the day and LOVED getting her picture taken.
This is the first time that a Photo of the Month winner has come from a shoot outside of the studio. I can’t wait until this little lady visits the Shea Deighan Photography studio with her gift voucher for £50.
Twelve Monthly Winners
This little woman is my last monthly winner of 2013 which means that we now have all of our finalists for my Photo of the Year competition.
Who Will Win? You Decide!
Just like last year, my photo of the year will be decided by public vote. Prizes will be given to first, second and third place.
First Place: Prizes worth £500.
Second Place: Prizes worth £300.
Third Place: Prizes worth £200.
That’s a total of £1,000 in prizes up for grabs.
How To Vote
Voting will be done exclusively on my website. Stay tuned for details and on how to cast your vote.

Yesterday I had the pleasure of shooting Aran & the lovely Charlene for their pre wedding shoot in Donegal.
We’re quite close to their big day which has been harder than most to plan as they are now living in Dublin. Charlene is the beautiful Donegal girl and Aran is the Dublin man.
It stayed mostly dry and was quite mild for December. I’d love a repeat of the weather when their big day swings by in a few weeks!
Say hey to my November photo of the month winner.
There was so many little entrants into this months competition. I wish all of them could win.
This little lady wins a £50 gift voucher for a future portrait session.
This little one came into my studio recently with her two sisters and mum and dad for a family shoot. It was a lot of fun and I’m sure you’ll see one or two more around my portfolio as they were all gorgeous.
2014 Photo Of The Year
Don’t forget that this little lady will join the other monthly winners of 2013 for my Photo of the Year in January. Not long to go now!
I’ve never used my site for anything other than my photography business before but as it’s still photography, I thought I’d share this with you anyway.
This weekend, I had a great time with The Band Perry in Glasgow. I’ve been a big fan for a few years now and have been lucky enough to see them a few times live.
This weekend, I got to MEET them and have a brief chat, although I should have asked them for a photography job. Maybe next time!
Here’s a few images from my little fuji camera. These images are no way near the quality of my other professional images. They are just for me and I’d thought I’d share. I’d love to get the chance to photograph The Band Perry again with my proper professional gear!
Oh and just a mention for Lindsay Ell who was supporting. Amazing too. Can’t wait to hear what her first album is like!
Let me know what you think…
Can’t wait for the shows in Belfast & Dublin later in the week!
Oh and if Reid, Neil or Kimberly are reading, I know a great photographer who’d love to do these properly for you next time!
Licentiate Awarded To Derry Photographer Shea Deighan From The Society of Wedding & Portrait Photographers (SWPP)
I’m delighted to announce that I have been awarded my licentiate qualification from the Society of Wedding & Portrait Photographers (SWPP). This is my second licentiate award. The first was from the Professional Photographers Association of Northern Ireland (PPANI).
I’m the only Derry/Londonderry photographer to currently hold this award from the SWPP and just the sixteenth in the whole of Northern Ireland.
To achieve the licentiate award, the SWPP requires the photographer to submit a panel of 20 images in one genre to be judged and critiqued by a panel of the UK’s best and brightest senior photographers. They judge the images on composition, creativity, lighting, post production and technical ability.
All of my images were given a score out of 20 and I’m happy to say the majority of my images were marked between 18 to 19.
Getting great results is one thing but my aim is to improve my photography and try to get 20 out of 20 in the future.
If I’m honest, I used this panel submission as a bit of fun and to see where my images really are and what standard my work is at. I honestly expected to get some feedback, constructive criticism and how I could improve the images so was pleasantly surprised to get the award.
All panel submissions are anonymous and each of the five judges didn’t know who the images belonged to so it’s great to get such fantastic feedback and good scores. The judging system is great so you end up with a very honest representation of the images.
The results of the panel show that I’m headed in the right direction and my award will be displayed proudly next to my licentiate from the PPANI in my studio reception.
Here’s to bigger and better things in 2014 and beyond!
BA (Hons), LPPANI, LSWPP
What a wet morning at Muff Glen yesterday morning. An absolute horror of a day for a photo shoot. As soon as I shot my first image, the rain got even heavier.
The gorgeous Danielle and her fiancé Jonny were still in the mood for a walk under the umbrella so I went off for a walk under the umbrella too. It was such a horrible day but that didn’t stop the gorgeous recently engaged couple from holding back their smiles. They are such a beautiful couple and I cannot wait to cover their wedding when 2015 swings by.
Well, the boys put up a good fight but in the end, most of my 2013 photo of the month competitions have been dominated by the girls!
Say hi to my October 2013 Photo of the Month winner! This young lady was part of a huge group of seven grandchildren who came into my studio for a fantastic portrait of them all. I have to say that they were all very good and I look forward to this little lady coming back into my studio early next year to spend her £50 gift voucher.
Don’t forget that all monthly winners from 2013 go into a huge annual Photo of the Year competition. Only two months to go!
It was time to put on the hard hat and hi visibility vest as I traveled to UCD in Dublin to photograph elements of a project that local Derry firm, Raemac Interior Systems were involved in. This is the first time that I visited UCD and I was very impressed with the campus. Takes me back to my own uni days…
Raemac Interior Systems were directly involved in a new multi million euro Sutherland School of Law development project as a specialist partitioning subcontractor. This was quite a prestigious project for Raemac to be involved in. I was delighted to be asked to photograph the completed areas of work.
Here are a few images from the shoot which will be used by Raemac Interior Systems for their own website and brochures.
For more information on Raemac Interior Systems, visit their website here.
Wow! Can’t believe that this wedding was shot back in May this year! I can’t believe that it’s only now that I’m showing some of these off!
I loved this wedding. Ashleigh & Aaron were lovely to deal with and what a good looking bride and groom! Just beautiful.
I loved that this wedding was up at Ten Square in Belfast. It’s such a great place to get married. A fantastic venue. Plus, it was somewhere I have never shot before. I’m very open to travelling around Northern Ireland for weddings.
After the ceremony, the plan was that I’d photograph the bride and groom around the hotspots of Belfast but unfortunately the vintage wedding car broke down on the way.
We all jumped out and settled for the grounds of Belfast City Hall. No worries! No matter the location, all the focus was going to be on the beautiful bride. Such a stunner! The City Hall turned out great in the end.
Walking back to Ten Square, I spotted a bus in traffic and after flagging it down, I asked the nice bus lady if we could take a few photos. This turned out to be one of my favourite photos of the day. Can you spot the photoshopping? How many changes did I make to the bus? I made four. See if you can find them!
As you can imagine, this is just a small sample of the images from the day. There were literally hundreds more fantastic shots. I don’t like to show off too many on the web (I like to keep most for the bride and groom to show personally) so if you want to see more, you’ll just have to visit me in the studio. Why not get the bus?
Last night, I spent the evening with the lovely folk from the Professional Photographers Association of Northen Ireland (PPANI). The wonderful David Campbell gave a very interesting talk on A Lifetime In Photography. David covered all aspects of his photographic career from the beginning right through to his Venture days and beyond. As a young photographer, it was really interesting to see things from his perspective and angle. He is a fantastic photographer and businessman. I left the presentation inspired and motivated for the future.
As a side note, it was announced that myself and Steven Neeson were given the licentiate award from the PPANI. As you can imagine, I’m delighted to be accepted in the the PPANI. It’s a brilliant organisation which represents Northern Ireland’s best and brightest photographers. I’m looking forward to learning and growing with the PPANI.
September Photo Of The Month By Shea Deighan Photography – Studio And Wedding Photographer Derry / Londonderry
What do you think of my September photo of the month winner? What fun we had during his photo shoot recently. A gift voucher for another photo shoot in the future is on it’s way to you!
Just when the girls were taking over my monthly competition, the boys are fighting back with winners in August and September! It’s currently 6 – 3 to the girls but who’s counting… Winners are drawn at random each month but some months, there are more girls names in the hat than boys. I’m guessing this is why the girls are dominating!
It won’t be long until this year is over and I’ll have a public vote to determine my photo of the year winner. It’s a nice way to start off the year and the winner gets a big prize. It’s all fun.
Have an A1 day! (Breaking Bad reference – lol)
I was delighted when asked by Local Women to shoot an advertising feature for their September edition of their magazine.
My assistant & I headed to Mussenden Temple in Downhill to shoot a feature for the New Kia Carens from Todds of Campsie. All fashion clothing was provided by Kular Fashion.
The brief was family fun. It was a lovely shoot to take part in. Both child models kept everyone in high spirits! The Kia Carens has so many beautiful features with seven seats. The best feature we had fun trying out was the reversing camera as you can see from the photos! It’s a great family car.
After all the fun with the car, it was inside the Mussenden Temple for the fashion shoot. All models were fantastic to work with and they all look fantastic!
Here’s some of the images which are featured in this months Local Women. It’s on sale now so go get one!
Well, the results are in. Say hello to my August 2013 Photo Of The Month winner!
What a cutie! A gift voucher is on its way to you!
As most of you know by now, all monthly winners go into a grand prize draw which will take place in January 2014 to determine the Shea Deighan Photography Photo Of The Year!
